Placement memories

The placement process happened at our coll starting from 7Th December. Two mass recruiters - CTS and INFY were scheduled to recruit students. I was pretty excited as it was one of my goals to get placed in a good company. My priorities were TCS and INFY as they provide excellent training and learning opportunities. Sadly, TCS cancelled their plans due to some reason. So, I was left with INFY as my top priority. The first company coming in was CTS and then followed by INFY. There were 2phases to clear CTS hurdle: 1. Aptitude test 2. Technical+HR interview. The aptitude test was quite simple. One had to manage time and read through all the questions. 1500 students from 4 campuses appeared for the test. Out of which 900 odd were selected for the next round. I was one among them. The interview was scheduled the next day. I was very confident of cracking the interview. My interview happened very smoothly. I managed to answer all questions satisfying the interviewer. The result was announced after making us wait till dinner. I was amused when I found that my name wasn't called out. A total of 541 students were placed. It was disappointment for those who werent selected and joy for the selected candidates. The moment was a great learning experience for me. I managed to congratulate some of my friends who were selected. Meanwhile, I told myself that CTS wasn't meant for me.

The next day, I came out of disappointment and started preparing for the aptitude test of Infosys. I learnt that Infy paper would be tough. I had confidence in myself that I will be able to crack the aptitude test(scheduled on 10Th DEC). So, I just revisited the basics the previous day. The aptitude test was challenging. I was pretty confident of the answers I marked. Later, after consulting with many students, I learnt that the paper was indeed tough. The interview was scheduled on the same day following the results of the aptitude test. The results told the story- out of 800 odd students who appeared, 200 odd students were through to the interview round. I had to rush myself to the interview hall which was scheduled immediately. I had to change myself to the formal look that was demanded. The interview consisted of a HR interview. I consulted one of my seniors who was placed @ infy last year. He advised me to stay calm and confident. I was a bit nervous before the interview. But everything disappeared when I entered the interview cabin. I was mostly tested on my leadership skills, problem solving capacity etc ... It was a wonderful experience after coming out of the interview. I was very much sure that I will be placed. Maintaining calmness, I waited for the results. And finally I was selected @ INFY. My full name was announced with clarity! I went blank for a moment and didn't express any emotion. I finally broke the jinx and expressed joy while sharing the news with my family. I managed to achieve success after coming out of defeat. I ll remember this experience for quite some time in my life.

PROCRASTINATION

No human being is perfect. Each and every individual would suffer from one setback or the other. These setbacks lead to diversion from our goals. I would call procrastination as a very bad habit , unless one realises it and acts on it , he is sure to suffer from difficulties to achieve success.
No person can escape from procrastination. But a person can control procrastination by discovering it and doing the right thing which needs to be done at the particular moment rather than doing what is alluring to the mind. The mind of man tends to diverge towards various interests. Every human being in this planet loves to do what is easy to do and does what his mind is attracted to. One solution I suggest to avoid procrastination is to do what you decide on immediately. Acting on the important job at hand immediately, even a small step towards it, will make the other thoughts to vanish. Procrastination can also be controlled by prioritising your work. Say, a thought arises in your mind to do something which is not important in the present circumstances( say watching tv). But you have to complete an important project of your company which is very crucial. You can avoid procrastination by prioritising the thoughts based on your goals. You assign massive pain to watching tv and great pleasure to the project work. Visualising the pain and pleasure will be more effective. But what if frequent thoughts of an interesting program on tv disturb your attention to the work in hand? A method similar to the one used by the famous martial artist "Bruce Lee" can help you. Mr. Bruce Lee used to write down the negative thoughts that ran through his mind on a piece of paper and used to tear the paper into hundred pieces. This used to give him the much needed focus for practicing martial arts. One can try the same. These methods can be used in bringing the mind to a static state and help in doing the important jobs in hand, rather than postponing it.

Tell me about your views on procrastination. Please do leave your comments.

How is that the overall life span of human beings come down over the years? N number of reasons from industrial revolution to cutting down of tress turn up. But, can you cite these reasons and survive? What does health mean to you? [comments pls] One cannot survive in this hectic schedule of life(as most describe) without turning focus on ones body and mind. It is said that 90 percent of health issues emerge due to stress . That means one has to be mentally disturbed to be diseased. These days, you can see people carrying varieties of tablets of different colours. The blue one for high blood pressure, red for low BP , Pink for acidity and so on. Inhalers for breathing has become a common component potted in one's pocket. A person falls sick due to the slightest of changes in climatic conditions. One needs to take responsibility to improve his health. The world needs a leader to guide the people to peak health.

One such leader is rapidly changing the world around by popularising the teachings of the ancient sages. Using the once famous teachings of India he has, in a short time, changed the approach to a healthy life. The person I am referring to is none other than Swami Ramdevji Maharaj. He, along with his disciples have been able to obtain huge success towards the development of India to a "healthy nation". The success of his principles in India led to his worldwide coverage. His institute or " Yoga Graam" at Haridwar is a product of his hardwork and dedication. The medical field is now cooperating with swamiji to realise his goal of a healthy nation. Swamiji preaches the principles of yoga and pranayama to effective healing of the body and mind. He devised simple breathing exercises which on regular practise will lead to a healthy life. One could visit the Yoga Graam in Haridwar and meet Swamiji to reap maximum benifits. Various diseases from asthma to cancer has been cured through the blessings of Swamiji and guidence by his disciples. Relief from stress, cure from diseases, a concentrated mind are some of the benefits one can get by practising his philosophies. The media has been a great helping hand in covering his preachings to the world. The yoga camps conducted by swamiji is covered live on tv by the media. Daily yoga programs appear in Astha channel from 5:00 am to 7:30 am and 8:00 pm t0 9:00 pm. The Yoga Graam in Haridwar boasts of having an ayurvedic research center with numerous doctors helping in the research. The first disciple of Swamiji, Acharya Balakrishna ji, has made his presence felt by assisting swamiji throughout. Various books, casettes, cds and dvds have also been released to benifit the public. A website containing all the information you maybe looking for is available. Please do visit http://divyayoga.com/main.htm . Point of View

This is my first post in my blog so please read through this carefully and post your sincere comments. I will take in every comment in the direction of improving my next set of columns.

Do you get out of your bed with a willingness to achieve your goals? Or do you curse life for its disappointments? The point of view varies based on how you deal with challenges. Dont you think so? The challenges you face may vary from person to person but how you handle the situation is what matters in life. Remember: A person is evaluated in times of crisis and difficulties and not when everything is fine and easy. For example, any person can think positively and act effortlessly when no pressing problems arise. But it is required for every person to note his/her actions when life sends in one of its unexpected high current waves. So, if you get out of your bed early in the morning with goals printed in your mind, you are certain to act towards it during the rest of the day. Or, what if you don't do so? Then you would always sail along what life has to offer to you. You are not in control of your life. Think about it.

Now coming to the column header:Point of view. How do you view life as?Do you view life as just another day? Or do you view life as a new oppurtunity everyday? [Post your view on this]

Every Individual would and will want his/her life to offer happiness. The word "Happiness" here can mean different things to different people. A person may find happiness in earning enormous amount of money. Another person may find happiness in serving people and charity. A successful person will work towards his happiness by looking at each day as an oppurtunity to improve his/her progress. This is the point view everyone would have to implement in life to ensure a successful career in the creation of life. [What do you say?]
